Can You Shower & Swim With Your Jewellery? Waterproof, Explained

Short answer: with the right metal, yes — you can shower, swim, sweat and sleep in your jewellery. But not all 'waterproof' jewellery is equal. Here's what to look for.

What makes jewellery waterproof?

It comes down to the metal. 316L stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and doesn't react with water, sweat or chlorine, so it won't rust or degrade. Cheaper jewellery made from brass, copper alloys or thin plating reacts with moisture — that's what fades, tarnishes and turns skin green.

Can you shower in it?

Yes. Water alone won't harm 316L steel or a quality 18K gold PVD finish. Soap residue can dull the shine over time, so an occasional wipe keeps it bright — but you don't need to take it off.

Can you swim in it?

Yes — including chlorinated pools and the sea. Rinse with fresh water afterwards and dry it to keep it gleaming, especially after saltwater.

Can you sweat / train in it?

Absolutely. Sweat is no problem for 316L steel. That's exactly why our pieces are built for everyday, all-day wear.

What about gold jewellery in water?

STAVR gold uses 18K gold PVD, a finish bonded to the steel — far more water- and scratch-resistant than traditional gold plating, which can wear thin. (More on that: does stainless steel jewellery tarnish?)
